“The Universe is Infinite, let Literacy be your Rocketship”
Hip-Hop is a Global Language utilized by youth
The form of expression or communication, referred to as Hip-Hop, can be utilized to inspire students of all backgrounds to develop an interest or passion for literacy.
ARE U WASTING TIME? Dead Babies: Volume I is a Hip-Hop influenced, youth empowerment instructional learning book and classroom workshop series centered on literacy. The book integrates academia and the arts, through the lens of hip-hop, to create highly engaging and interactive lesson plans and workshops for students.
The name, ARE U WASTING TIME? Dead Babies: Volume I, was derived from the notion that a segment of today’s youth are seemingly driven or “set-up” to be spiritually, emotionally, socially, and economically disconnected from the values that have and continue to drive modern society.
This is a highly provocative, live performance-based educational model that can be delivered in classroom setting, in-person or online. The model allows the ARE U WASTING TIME? Youth Empowerment & Non-Profit Corporation to engage students from anywhere in the world. It opens the door for greater impact and provides flexibility in how youth are served, despite the challenges of a pandemic.
As workshop participants equipped with our Hip-Hop influenced book, students learn to express themselves through reading, creative writing, and public speaking.
Progressive academics refer to this style of educational engagement as an abolitionist-styled approach to reimagine learning and reach students that have historically been marginalized.
